It’s New Year’s Eve!  One of the most celebrated nights of the year has finally arrived.  In Barcelona there will be many parties taking place throughout the city.  Nightclubs and bars come alive as locals and tourists alike come together to celebrate this special night.  As midnight approaches, many people head to Plaza Catalunya, with many also enjoying the traditional eating of grapes as the countdown begins.

 

If you are looking for something a bit quieter, then maybe head to the Jazz Sí Club Taller de Músics, for a jazz concert by the IVANOW Jazz Group.  The venue for this concert is a shop/club where music workshops, classes and courses take place.  Afterwards you can enjoy a wide variety of bars in Barcelona where there is sure to be a lively atmosphere.  Click on WeBarcelona for a list of bars and nightclubs.

  ¡Es Nochevieja!  Ha llegado una de las noches más celebradas del año.  En Barcelona habrá muchas fiestas por toda la ciudad.  Discotecas y bares se animarán tanto con los turistas como los de aquí para celebrar esta noche especial.  Mientras se acerca la medianoche, mucha gente se dirige a la Plaza Cataluña para comer las uvas tradicionales con las campanadas.

Ringing in the New Year in Barcelona?  Not sure of exactly what’s going on or how to celebrate it?  Well then, this entry is especially for you!  One of the things that usually distinguishes the celebration of New Year’s Eve in Barcelona and in Spain from other countries in Europe is the tradition of eating grapes as the countdown begins.

 

These twelve grapes are eaten as midnight strikes and if you succeed in eating them, then you can look forward to a year of happiness and luck.  This tradition was started in Alicante in 1909 when grape growers had a production surplus and they thought that it would be a good way to get rid of it.

¿Piensa celebrar el año nuevo en Barcelona?  ¿No sabe exactamente en qué consiste o cómo celebrarlo?  Pues esta entrada está pensada especialmente para usted.  Una de las cosas que distingue la celebración de la Noche Vieja en Barcelona y en España de otros países en Europa, es la tradición de comer uvas cuando empieza la cuenta atrás a la medianoche.

 

Tradicionalmente en España, todo el mundo come doce uvas cuando empieza dicha cuenta atrás, y si consigue comer todas las uvas, puede esperar un año de felicidad y suerte. Esta tradición empezó en Alicante en 1909, año en que los cultivadores de uvas tuvieron un excedente de producción y pensaron en una buena manera de deshacerse de él.
